Following on from the highly successful exhibition ‘A Generous Space’ at Hastings Contemporary, 25 November 2021 – 17 April 2022. The New Art Gallery Walsall will present ‘A Generous Space 2’. Director Stephen Snoddy has selected 50 artists signed up to the Artist Support Pledge and in turn asked each selected artist to select one further artist, to create an exhibition of 100 artworks by 100 artists.

Artist Support Pledge participated in Aesthetica Magazines Future Now conference for critical and cultural debate. This two-day event brings together key institutions, galleries, publications and artists for in-person and live-streamed discussions surrounding the most pressing issues from today’s creative industries. Leading speakers from the art world meet to discuss today’s most important issues. Through imaginative debates, panel discussions, career advice and cultural engagement, Future Now is a platform for idea generation.

We The Muse Digital #studioinview Award

A Generous Space, Hastings Contemporary, UK

In November 2022, Artist Support Pledge (ASP) moved from our screens and onto real life gallery walls with the first ever exhibition crowdsourced from Instagram at Hastings Contemporary.

More than 300 works, created by artists from around the world as well as from just around the corner, featured in A Generous Space. 

With more than 3600 submissions for A Generous Space, all made via Instagram using the #aspshows hashtag, ASP founder artist Matthew Burrows MBE and eight other selectors choose the works to be included in the exhibition. The selectors were acclaimed artist Lakwena; Kate Bryan, TV presenter and Head of Collections for Soho House; a-n’s Chief Executive Julie Lomax; Natalie Melton, Creative Director, Arts Council; Sally Shaw MBE, Director of the 2021 ‘Art Fund Museum of the Year’ gallery Firstsite; Jo Baring, Director of the Ingram Collection of Modern British & Contemporary Art: journalist and editor Javier Pes and Jes Fernie, an independent curator and writer.

The Hari Art Prize, London, UK

Artist Support Pledge is delighted to have been invited to be a guest judge by A Space For Art for the first ever Hari Art Prize. The three finalists will be announced at a VIP award event at The Hari in London on 17 November 2022. The overall winner will be awarded £10,000 grant, generously donated by Dr. Aron Harilela. The two runners up will receive the opportunity to become the next Artists in Residence based at The Hari from January to February 2023, followed by an exhibition of their work at the London hotel. All three finalists will have their work exhibited at The Hari’s newest hotel in Hong Kong.

Ukraine Support Pledge

In response to the war in Ukraine, Artist Support Pledge founder Matthew Burrows and artist curator Zavier Ellis of Ellis Smith Projects have come together to launch Ukraine Support Pledge. Using the same principles as Artist Support Pledge, artists were able to donate sales of artworks through the #ukrainesupportpledge. Within a month the campaign had raised over £115,000.

Artist Support Pledge is delighted to have been invited to be a guest judge for the 2021 Contemporary British Painting Prize.

Artist Susan Absolon was the prizewinner of the 2021 CBP Prize, receiving £2000, an essay written about her painting practice by Artist Support Pledge, Director and Artist, Matthew Burrows MBE, membership to Contemporary British Painting and to be one of the selectors for the 2022 CBP Prize.

Hannah Murgatroyd was awarded ‘Highly Commended’.

Art For Your World, #artforyourworld

Artist Support Pledge proudly supported and participated in #artforyourworld. A campaign launched in 2021 for WWF, led by curatorial practice Artwise, to mobilise and unite the art world in the fight against the climate crisis.  .

Artist Support Pledge ran a month long campaign highlighting and encouraging artists to make a donation to Art For Your World from their ASP sales.

Artist Support Pledge collobrated with Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop for “Matthew Burrows Selects” , an exhibition celebrating the renowned and hugely successful Artist Support Pledge. 

Selected by Matthew Burrows, the exhibition bought together artists utilising Artist Support Pledge enabling them to exhibit other works from their studios alongside their available Artist Support Pledge pieces.

Artist Support Pledge participated in a live CLiC event alongside; Sarah Philp, Director of Programmes and policy Artfund, Candida Gertler OCE, co-founder of Outset Contemporary Art Fund, where different funding cultures were explored. , The discussion centered around who has the scope and incentive to fund art, and how we can harness the immense potential power of collective funding efforts.
